MOORESTOWN, N.J., March 21, 2019 — CareKinesis President Orsula V. Knowlton, PharmD, MBA, will be named a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) during the organization’s 2019 Annual Meeting and Expo to be held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, March 22–25.
Dr. Orsula KnowltonThe APhA Fellow Award was established “to honor APhA members for exemplary achievements in professional practice and outstanding service to the pharmacy profession through activities in APhA and other organizations”. To become a Fellow, the inductee must have been a member for a minimum of ten years and met the criteria of outstanding service to the profession of pharmacy.
Dr. Knowlton is also the Co-founder, President, Chief Marketing, and New Business Development Officer for TRHC, a healthcare technology company optimizing medication safety by deploying new, medication risk mitigation software solutions and proprietary medication decision support tools. TRHC has developed the only multi-drug simultaneous analysis software which creates a Medication Risk Score™ based on pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics and pharmacodynamics. Clinical pharmacists at TRHC use these tools to guide physicians in their management of high-risk patients throughout the country. TRHC now employs over 1000 team members, with over 250 pharmacists in multiple locations across the U.S.
As TRHC President, Dr. Knowlton’s leadership has supported the development, implementation and ongoing evolution of multiple clinical pharmacy service offerings, designed to be driven by pharmacists, and that have demonstrated positive clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes for patients. Given these innovative programs, Dr. Knowlton has delivered over 100 invited lectures and training programs at state and national pharmacy meetings. Her publications are focused on advancing the role of pharmacists in precision medicine and improving health outcomes in at-risk populations.
Prior to TRHC, Dr. Knowlton was a key member of the start-up management team of excelleRx, a hospice medication management and pharmacy distribution company. During her tenure as Vice President, Chief Marketing, Strategy and Business Development Officer, from 1995 – 2007, the Company grew organically to service over 85,000 hospice patients in 49 states. The Company was purchased by a Fortune 500 company in 2005.
Dr. Knowlton has published widely, including papers, book chapters and articles. She co-authored the first published consensus guidelines on the standards for anticoagulation management centers, in conjunction with the Anticoagulation Forum.
Active in the Philadelphia and South Jersey communities, Dr. Knowlton was honored with the “Mid-Atlantic Women’s Leadership Award” from CEO Report, 2018; Fellow, College of Physicians of Philadelphia, PA, 2018; named a “Women of Distinction” 2006 by the Philadelphia Business Journal, “NJ’s Best 50 Women in Business 2008”, winner of NJ Garden State “Entrepreneur Excellence Award 2013” and SNJ Business People, “Exceptional Entrepreneur Award” 2014.
Dr. Knowlton received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of the Sciences College of Pharmacy and her Masters of Business Administration from Temple University’s School of Business Executive MBA Program.
